CATL Signs a Strategic Cooperation Agreement with the University of Hong Kong to Jointly Build a Zero-Carbon Future Innovation Center

2025-06-11

Recently, CATL and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) have formally entered into a strategic cooperation agreement. Leveraging Hong Kong's strengths as an international financial hub and the Special Administrative Region government's commitment to carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals (the dual-carbon goals), the collaboration will lead to the establishment of a Zero-Carbon Future Innovation Center and a Zero-Carbon Industry Alliance, with a focus on three key domains, including the formulation of international zero-carbon policy standards, zero-carbon technological innovation, and the acceleration of the zero-carbon energy transition.

In terms of policy and standards formulation, the partners will jointly advocate for international battery carbon footprint accounting standards. In technological innovation, they will integrate HKU's iSG platform with CATL's zero-carbon innovation capabilities to explore deep integration of satellite remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and next-generation power systems, which will enable the development of integrated "source-grid-load-storage" systems and virtual power plant applications. Regarding the zero-carbon energy transition, Hong Kong will serve as a demonstration city for developing replicable solutions in zero-carbon electricity generation, zero-carbon buildings, and zero-carbon transportation. Additionally, the partnership will explore innovative carbon finance models to foster carbon market development and enhance its connectivity with international carbon markets.

This strategic cooperation marks a significant milestone for CATL in building a global zero-carbon ecosystem. By integrating top academic resources and industrial experience, CATL will, together with HKU, contribute to the global energy transition and carbon neutrality goals, steering the world towards a green, sustainable, zero-carbon future.
